The Rowan Nicks Russell Drysdale Fellowship in Indigenous Health and Welfare, which commenced in 2004, operates from a philanthropic base of 2 equal bequests. The first was a bequest from the estate of the late Russell Drysdale made to The University of Sydney by the late Lady Maisie Drysdale. This has been matched with the bequest of Dr Rowan Nicks AO in 2012 to provide the operational funding for the Fellowship.
The Fellowship is administered through the University of Sydney’s School of Public Health and is managed by a committee dedicated to the cause and the patrons. Dr Rowan Nicks sat on the Committee to the age of 97 and Ms Lynne Clarke (Russell Drysdale’s daughter) continues to represent the trustees of the estate of the late Lady Maisie Drysdale. The committee is chaired by an appointee from the Dean of Sydney Medical School. Other committee members include a representative from the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons for Dr Nicks’ bequest and a representative of the Drysdale bequest, currently Mrs Lynne Clarke, Indigenous representatives and representatives from the university staff and others with specific interests in the work of the Fellowship. There is also an appointed Executive Officer who manages the administration of the Fellowship and Committee.
